Chief Sensei Roger Fabri

Chief Sensei Roger Fabri

We are honoured to introduce Chief Sensei Roger Fabri, a highly respected and experienced Shotokan Karate instructor with a lifelong dedication to the martial art. Sensei Roger began his Karate journey in 1985 under the guidance of Sensei Roy Tomlin, 5th Dan, at Lewisham SKC. As the first member of the Fabri family to take up Karate, he achieved a significant milestone in 1990 when he earned his Shodan (1st Dan) alongside his daughter.

Throughout his career, Sensei Roger has achieved numerous national and regional titles in both Kata and Kumite, and has had the privilege of training with some of the most distinguished masters in the discipline, including Sensei Keinosuke Enoeda (9th Dan), Sensei Yoshinobu Ohta (8th Dan), and Sensei Sawada (8th Dan).

In 1999, Sensei Roger founded Beckenham SKC, where he has since dedicated himself to teaching and mentoring students of all levels. His leadership has helped the club grow into a recognised centre of excellence, known for its high standards, disciplined training, and strong community spirit.

Clare Fabri

Sensei Clare Fabri brings over 37 years of experience to Beckenham SKC, with a lifelong dedication to Shotokan Karate. Beginning her journey at just 5 years old under the instruction of Sensei Roy Tomlin and training alongside her father, Sensei Roger Fabri, she quickly established herself as a rising talent.

At the age of 9, she became the youngest female black belt in South London, a remarkable achievement that set the tone for her future in martial arts. Sensei Clare has earned numerous awards in both Kata and Kumite, competing at regional and national levels with great success.

Teaching at Shirley SKC with her father and daughter, Sensei Clare is deeply committed to developing the next generation of martial artists. In 2023, she achieved her Nidan (2nd Dan) and in 2024, she was awarded her International D Licence Instructor and D Licence Referee certification, further solidifying her role as a leader in the Shotokan community.

Her passion, experience, and dedication continue to inspire students of all ages and abilities

Sensei Anya prevails again

Sensei Anya Fabri

Sensei Anya Fabri is a passionate and accomplished martial artist who began her Shotokan Karate journey in 2017 under the mentorship of her grandfather, Chief Sensei Roger Fabri, at Beckenham SKC. Representing the third generation of the Fabri family, she earned her Shodan (1st Dan) in December 2021.

Anya has quickly distinguished herself as both a dedicated instructor and a successful competitor. She has earned numerous medals at national and international tournaments, and in 2023, she was selected to join the prestigious JKA England Squad. In 2024, Anya made her international debut representing England at the Hungarian Open, and went on to win bronze medals in both Kata and Kumite at the ISKF World Championship.

As the youngest member of the Shirley SKC teaching team, Sensei Anya brings energy, focus, and a strong commitment to the art. Kumite is her favourite discipline, and she continues to train and compete at the highest levels. Re-selected for the JKA England Squad 2025, she has already added multiple medals and trophies to her growing list of achievements this year.

Anya is a rising talent in the world of Shotokan Karate and an inspiring role model for young martial artists.
